Potential2Purpose was birthed out of concern for and interest in young leaders. Through observing the outside world becoming more complicated and challenging to navigate, I wanted to play a role in supporting the growth and success of those heading toward college and beyond.

To help them build a life, not just get to college.  In supporting their potential and clarifying pathways, we start with possibility and convert it to committed vision.  With that vision then comes the pursuit of optimal partners to get there.

A strong why typically wins any long-term race.  That is the purpose of Potential2Purpose.  To help each young leader pursue their future from the inside-out, fully alive.

The Process

Idea: This site will  tell the story about my experience partnering with young leaders and supporting their climb through high school, college and as early career pursuers.

• Chronicle the process and present it as a journey to lean into and navigate through on the way to a valuable future that is intentional and creates the opportunity for ongoing growth and impact.
• Reveal how it is unique to standard college counseling and what will come forth as a result.  Sell the process and create a compelling story for them to align with that is quite different from what they receive from the outside world.  Inside-out approach instead of outside-in.  

Part One>Today.  An overview of current realities being experienced. 

1. Review of what’s right, wrong, confused and missing.  A general audit.
2. Out of that analysis what are the Starts, Stops and Continues that have already caught our attention?  Early ideas to record and refer back to.

Part Two>Yesterday.  Here we conduct a process called story line to learn where we’ve been and what turns have been foundational in our development.  By reviewing our journey up to now we are better positioned to begin to look ahead having acquired wisdom from the rearview mirror review.  Identifying the positive and negative turns we’ve experienced and considering what we’ve learned that will be valuable moving forward.

Part Three>My Wiring.  Complete of 4 assessments.

-Personal Values to utilize as channel markers to strategically operate from.

-Demonstrated Strengths to capitalize on and incorporate into every day living.

-Personality tendencies to embrace and carry out while always operating on a “striving to get better” approach.

-Career interests to uncover, identify and pursue to gain understanding and perspective.

Through this first series of steps we acquire considerable data and thought provoking information to not only review the course we’ve been pursuing but also strengthen the journey through fortified commitments related to personally growing with intention.   From over 100 pages of data we distill 2 pages that will serve as a future road map of sorts.

Part Four>My Immediate Impact. Identifying a few critical understandings that will be pivotal in stepping out and going forth:

1. My Performance in Life = My Potential – Interference.  Learning to overcome the interference that is holding us back from showing up as our best self.  
2. Setting meaningful goals for the current season we reside in to maximize this section of life and be better qualified for the next one.
3. Preparing the way as a young leader to step out and develop my potential through committed efforts of my choosing to positively impact this season.  
4. Building a success team to support, gain wisdom from, and advance through their encouragement and examples.    
5. Growing as a leader of both myself and supporting others.

Part Five>Career Considerations & Getting Ready To Test Them.

Through a review of career related instruments and discussion we begin to identify possible pathways to conduct research on to fully understand what the career entails and what type of jobs are available currently for someone finishing their education.  Also, review the learning journey and skillset development that will be critical to win.  There may be one main focused area or several to drill down on.  We will also consult those who are currently doing the work for insight and potential feedback.

Once we are at a place of career clarity, we then go to work clarifying what an ideal collegiate partner looks like.  We’ll work through all components of a college experience and then develop a roster of potential partners do conduct research on in order to determine ideal partnerships to consider pursuing.  We also learn precisely what each college requires from an admission standpoint to learn what is essential.

Part Six>Going For It!

This is the formal pursuit process of applying to the colleges we’ve outlined.  Completing the requirements with excellence and ahead of schedule.  Delivering packages that stand out and share our best stories for the potential partner to know what makes us tick.

What We Do In Review:

The purpose is to equip each young leader with the tools necessary to meet the demands of reality both in their current circles but also those that are to come.
